WHEN AND WHERE DOES RUGBY SEASON TAKE PLACE?

We have 3 seasons each year.  We play during the spring (mid-March to May), summer (June to Mid-August) and fall (mid-August to November except Labor day weekend). Spring is for development and friendlies, summer is 7s and 10s tournament focusing on social and development, and fall season is our main competition season.

Typically, our league matches are in the Twin Cities, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois.  Home games are typically in Eagan or Maplewood, MN. ROAD TRIPS ARE AWESOME!!  Each spring, we also enter a “fun” tournament, which could be anywhere in the country. This year we traveled to Nashville, TN for the 40th Anniversary of NashBash and made it to the semi-finals in our bracket!  Other recent tours include Maggotfest 2022 (Missoula, MT) and Mardi Gras Rugby Tournament 2023 (New Orleans, LA.)

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Dues are waived for a rookie’s first main season (spring or fall), so you can try us risk free! You just need to pay for your annual CIPP registration with USA Rugby before you could play in a game and also pay your share of any travel costs (gas, hotel, flight, etc.).

After your free season, social membership costs $30/season and active player membership ranges between $100-$175 depending on your fundraising engagement (see below):

MOOSE: Participate in 3 or more fundraising events per season - $100/season

EAGLE: Participate in 2 fundraising events per season - $125/season

LOON: Participate in 1 fundraising event per season - $150/season

MOSQUITO - Participate in 0 fundraising events per season - $175/season

Everyone will begin the season with paying $100 and then you will be billed for the fundraising tier you fall into at the end of the season as applicable.

DO I NEED INSURANCE?

We recommend having health insurance. However, USA Rugby now provides limited insurance with your CIPP membership. More coverage details and other information are available here:  http://usarugby.org/insurance

HOW MUCH OF A TIME/LIFESTYLE COMMITMENT IS RUGBY?

Ultimately, we accept all commitment levels as long as you make your commitment level known and communicate with your captains early and often so we can adequately prepare for practice and games. Keep in mind that communication and follow-through determine play time.

WHAT IS THE TEAM LIKE OUTSIDE OF THE GAME?

If you don't already know, rugby is its own little community.  I have my chiropractor, dentist, apartment, etc. all because of someone on the rugby team that hooked me up.  It makes starting out in the world or moving to a new area so easy!  Let me know if we can help you in any way. I also have many friends on this team that I consider my family.  They have helped me celebrate my birthday, gone with me to surgery, and brought me Gatorade when I was sick.  Menagerie is a wonderful team and I hope you'll come check us out and ultimately become one of us.  We do more than just play rugby.  We are involved in our community.  When I was looking for a rugby team, I really liked that Menagerie was more than just the game.  Don't get me wrong, the game is very important to us, we are competitive and we aspire to win a National Title.  However, that isn't the only thing we have to offer.  We work hard on the field and we also play hard off the field!
