Nancy "Pippi" Knauff joined Menagerie in 1991 and became the original social member. With her outgoing personality and bright red lipstick, she quickly made her way into the hearts of the team. She was always there for the team and the players, cheering at games and a queen at social events. She was Menagerie's #1 supporter.

Pippi was a nurse at HCMC, in the pediatric intensive care unit. Many of the kids treated there were poor, abused by their parents, or didn't have families to come visit them. Pippi loved those kids, and was constantly bringing stuff for them. She contracted bacterial meningitis at the age of 35, and was taken from us much too soon. It was the hardest experience the Menagerie, as a group, have ever been through.

The bookcart was started by her husband, Dave, and her family as a way to remember her and her love for the patients at HCMC. The "cart" has since turned into a library, and has expanded to include videos & CDs. The children can check stuff out while they're in the hospital, and if they really love it, take it home with them.

Menagerie Rugby Club continues the tradition of Pippi's Bookcart with an annual book drive in memory of Pippi, as her spirit remains in our hearts.

Magazine Fundraiser

Magazine Fundraising is cool & helps support our addiction to rugby (& keeps some people out of prison - you know who you are!!) For all of you responsible folks, it also helps pay for the costs associated with playing rugby & team expenses - which we all know aren't cheap!!

These include: car rentals, hotels, team meals, Sirs, equipment, field rentals, trainers, trips to Playoffs & Nationals, etc...

Secondly as a Menagerie team member, it is your responsibility to participate in at least 2 Fundraisers per season.

Goodsearch

Goodsearch is "searching for a cause" & helps raise money while surfing the net - which you know you do everyday anyway (so make us some money!!). Because it's powered by Yahoo!, you get proven search results while potentially earning a spot in heaven at the same time.

As part of our dedication to strengthen women’s rugby in Minnesota and the Midwest, the monies earned by Menagerie Rugby Club through Goodsearch is allocated to our scholarship fund. We award this scholarship annually to a selected area high school female rugby player who meets preset criteria including the continuation of her rugby career through college. We also encourage and gratefully accept all donations towards this worthy cause!
